Departments
There are several departments which are working under the supervision of trained and experienced staff members.
The important ones are listed below:

Clinical services:
All clinical services catering to the needs of indoor and outdoor patients.

Psychiatric institute:
To provide education & training.

Research:
Regulates and coordinates various research studies.

Library:
The library has several thousand books on many subjects, specially psychiatry. The service is free for hospital staff.
Other medical professionals, and medical students etc may borrow books from this library by becoming members, after paying a nominal fee.

Pharmacy:
This deals with the acquisition and supply of quality and inexpensive medicines to OPD and hospitalised patients.

E.C.T. Machines:
We manufacture new ECT machines according to the latest international specifications. These machines have been in use in our hospital since 30 years. They are for sale at a small price of Rs. 39,950/-. Many psychiatrists from all over the country have been using these machines with complete satisfaction.

Printing and Publication:
This department looks after all the matters relating to publication of Karachi Psychiatric Hospital Bulletin, and introductory booklets on different illnesses. The following books have been written by Dr. Syed Mubin Akhtar.

English – “Sex Education for Muslims – guidance for men and women, single or married”

Kitchen:
Nutritious and medically appropriate diet is cooked and supplied to all hospitalized patients by our kitchen. The cost of the food is included in the daily charges and relatives do not have to run back and forth to feed their patients.

Public Relations:
This department keeps liaison with companies on the panel, pharmaceutical companies, governmental and non-governmental organizations and also organizes free medical camps, functions, seminars and public awareness programs.

How to admit:
All patients are first interviewed and examined in the OPD and if hospitalization is advisable they can be admitted right away.

OPD consultation:
No previous appointment is necessary. In fact psychiatric consultation is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, even on holidays, at all our Karachi and Hyderabad branches.

Organization:
The organization is basically a facility which provides psychiatric treatment to patients suffering from mental disorders and at the same time devotes itself to promoting awareness about mental disorders in the general public.
